Description of Tour

A tour to discover and taste the renowed wines of Salento and, in particular, the most traditional red ones: Primitivo di Manduria (the dry and the sweet one: one of the few Italian wine that can be paired to dark chocolate), Negramaro, Salice Salentino. In Salento there is also an old and interesting tradition of rosè wines and the white wines (also the sparking ones) are improving a lot in the last years. We can visit one or more DOC wine area such as Manduria, Guagnano, Cellino, Locorotondo, etc.
Depending on your interests, we can choose the kind of wineries to visit (from the biggest ones to the smallest ones, from the best value for money ones to the most espensive and exclusive ones), we can add a visit to a vineyard (from the end of August to the end of September it’s also possible to take part to the grape harvest and to learn about the winemaking techniques), to a wine museum (i.e. the Museum of the Primitivo Wine of Manduria where it’s possible to understand the history of wine in Manduria, its tradition and identity), to a masseria (a typical Apulian farmhouse).

Some idea for changes to the itinerary
It’s also possible to extend the tour with an art and history guided visit (an historic city center, an archeological site), with a visit of an artesan workshop (pottery, stone, wood, etc.) or with some more wine and gastronomy activities such as a cooking lesson, a meal in a typical restaurant, a snack with a frisella (a kind of bread seasoned with fresh tomatoes, oregan and extra virgin olive oil), a visit to see the cheese production and to taste a typical cheese (ricotta, cacioricotta, caciocavallo),  a visit to an olive grove  to admire the centuries old olive trees, to take part to the olive harvest, to visit an oil  mill to learn the techniques to obtain the extra virgin olive oil, some other typical food experience (dried figs, bakery, pikles, jams, liquors, etc.)
