When on a city trip, you often wonder, if you have already seen most of the highlights in the city itself, if there is anything else you could visit in the surrounding area to get a glimpse of the surrounding region. For this case, I recommend taking a fun and varied day trip, off the beaten path, through Barcelona's provincial su. At only 90 km, there are beautiful rural districts, a great historical and artistic patrimony and, moreover, the opportunity to learn a lot about the culture, the traditions, the language, the mentality of the Catalan people.
Visit with me some ancient small towns, such as Folgueroles, birthplace of the national poet of Catalonia Jacint Verdaguer, or also Rupit and Tavertet, small villages built entirely of natural stone, picturesquely located. But also the very interesting medieval core of the town of Vic, with a beautiful large main square, a Roman temple and the important Episcopal Museum, which houses the third best collection of Romanesque art in the world, or the imposingly located Romanesque monastery of Sant Pere de Caserres. All this in the middle of a landscape where large traditional farms alternate with dense forests. And you can get to know the good Catalan gastronomy in one of the excellent restaurants in the countryside, where you will only meet locals.
And if you also want to do a smaller or even longer hike in nature as a further counterpoint to the city tour in Barcelona, the hikes to the hermitage of Cabrera, to the mountain Puigsacalm or on the heights of Collsacabra can be combined very well and easily with this excursion. Please ask me!
