Duomo, Baptistery (with its 3 famous doors, one of which is called the “Gate of Paradise”), the bell tower of the DuomoomoThrough Via Calzaiuoli and stop at Orsanmichele Church. A strange church :)
Piazza Signoria (one of the most beautiful squares in Italy!) With the Palazzo Vecchio (the town hall), the Loggia dei Lanzi. Among the many statues in the square there is one that depicts the person who sponsored the Uffizi! .
Through the inner courtyard of the Uffizi we reach the river Arno.
If we go to the Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge) and cross it, we are on the other side of the Arno, the south side. This area of Florence is known as the "Oltrarno".In a few steps we reach the Palazzo Pitti (Palazzo Pitti, once the residence of the Duke of Florence, then the Grand Dukes of Tuscany and at the end of the King of Italy).
We leave the Pitti Palace and through a small, narrow street (so typical of this area of Florence) we reach the Piazza Santo Spirito, one of the most Florentine squares and the Chiesa diSanto Spirito, the first project of which was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi (the same architect who built the Duomo). The Santo Spirito Church played an important role in Michelangelo's life!
Now we are leaving the area of “Oltrarno”, but we will use another bridge to come back to the north side of the Arno: we will cross the famous Ponte Santa Trinita. This bridge, like the other bridges of Florence (with the exception of the Old Bridge), was destroyed in World War II, but reconstructed “it was” and “how was it”, why? After crossing the Santa Trinita Bridge, we enter Via Tornabuoni (probably the richest street in Florence) with its famous fashion brands. On Via Tornabuoni is one side of Palazzo Strozzi, one of the most beautiful Renaissance palaces in Florence. The Strozzi family was one of the richest families in Florence. We walk through the inner courtyard of the castle, a typical “Renaissance courtyard”.From the Strozzi Palace we are in a few steps on the Piazza della Repubblica. What was there before it became a square? After Piazza della Repubblica we go to Piazza Santa Croce (the place of the Holy Cross) with its famous Chiesa di Santa Croce (Church of the Holy Cross).
