From the pilgrimage site of Birkenstein (850 m), we walk up the forest road for a bit before an unmarked path through steeper terrain (mountain path) leads us to the famous Fensterl. The pictures speak for themselves! After a rest we continue to the Breitenstein summit (1622 m). The alpine panorama from the Berchtesgadner Alps over Großglockner, Großvenediger to the Zugspitze is magnificent. It is possible to stop for refreshments at the Hubertushütte directly below the summit. The descent via the Bucheralm leads us back to the starting point.
