In Piazza Santa Maria Novella we start with a world-famous Renaissance facade. In the San Lorenzo district we stroll past the leather market to the Medici Palace and the Medici Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Would you like to take a look at the market hall (open until 3 p.m.)?
The cathedral square impresses with its medieval size and splendor. Here we study the statics of Brunelleschi's world-famous dome, a masterpiece of the early Renaissance, and the central perspective of the "paradise door" of the baptistery.
We continue to Piazza della Repubblica, where we learn about the former Kingdom of Italy.
Fancy a real espresso-caffè italiano? Or would you like to try your art guide's favorite ice cream?
The former granary is a witness to the plague in the Middle Ages.
We then arrive at the medieval town hall on the Piazza della Signoria, where the councilors once ruled the city republic. Our walk continues across the picturesque Ponte Vecchio, always following the unique Corridoio, to the Pitti Palace, the residence of the Grand Dukes of the Medici family.
