Description of Tour

Aquileia, the second Rome in Roman times and Grado, the golden island with Venetian flair

Six-hour tour

Aquileia

Aquileia has an excavation site from the Roman period of exceptional importance,on the Unesco World Heritage List. In no other city -with the exception of Rome- is early Christianity as present as here.

During the 3 hour guided tour we will visit the most important and interesting artistic monuments:

• the magnificent Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta a beautiful original mosaic floor of 750 m2 from the fourth century AD with the crypt of the frescoes and the crypt of the excavations.
• The remains of the Roman Forum.
• The Necropolis.
• Il Palazzo Episcopale, the Palace of the Archbishop.
• The imposing structures of the ancient river port.

Admission to the Basilica or the Palace of the Archbishop, is not included in the booking price. For groups of more than 7 people, you will also need to rent headphones to visit the Basilica with me.

Grado, the golden island

Venetian flair

On a coastal dune between land and sea, Grado lies in the middle of the northernmost lagoon of the Adriatic and looks back on over 1600 years of history. Traces can still be seen today in the alleys of the antique Castrum Romanum.

During the 2 hour guided tour we will visit the most important and interesting artistic monuments:

• The Basilica of Sant'Eufemia
• The Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie
• Remains of the Basilica della Corte
• The alleys of the old town
• Short walk on the pier overlooking the Adriatic Sea

Transportation from Aquileia to Grado is not included in the tour price. You will need to provide your own transportation. The distance is 10 km.
