Gdynia, a modern city with a port built in 1922-1930, at that time the most modern port on the Baltic Sea. The first city in the Second Republic of Poland - a real dream. The city center is built in modernist style with round corners and vertical facades and loop windows. Today Gdynia is a sailing and music city with the Heineken Opener Festival, Ladies Jazz Festival, Gdynia Blues Days, Globaltica or International Festival of Sacred Music. Every few years Gdynia hosts the Cutty Sark Tall Ship Races. From Gdynia, then Gottenhafen, the Wilhelm Gustloff sailed on January 31, 1945.
