Description of Tour

Charlemagne made the place his permanent residence, and the people of Aachen are grateful to him for this to this day, owing a glorious past and very EU-ropical present. Friedrich Barbarossa raised Aachen to the status of a city in 1166. After Norman invasions and destruction of the imperial palace in the 9th century, the time of the magnificent coronations of German imperial kings began with Otto the Great in 936, ending with the coronation of Ferdinand I of Habsburg in 1531. Even today, crowned heads visit the city. There is much to tell about it: Facts, legends and anecdotes.
