It is a wild country where the mountains drop straight into the sea and many charming towns like Perast, Kotor and Budva cling to the coast south of the border of Croatia.
The border with Montenegro is only about 40 km from Dubrovnik, so Montenegro with its own culture and history is definitely recommended as an excursion.
Along the Bay of Kotor we drive through several small fishing towns. First stop is a viewpoint just before the town of Perast for a beautiful view of the two small islands in the middle of the Bay of Kotor.
The drive continues towards Kotor, where you will have a stop of about 2 hours. The old town of Kotor is a very well preserved, beautiful center from the Middle Ages, which was built between the 12th and 14th century.
In the old town you will find numerous Roman and Gothic churches, facades, palaces and museums, as well as numerous restaurants and cafes, where you can fortify yourself for the onward journey.
Last but not least, we will drive to the famous old town of Budva, in order to let the trip to Montenegro slowly come to an end amidst this beautiful scenery. Budva is believed to be the oldest place in the Adriatic, dating back about 3500 years. The place was originally located on an island, which is now connected to the mainland by a sandbank. In Budva you have about 45 minutes to explore the old town with its numerous narrow streets and small churches. This time you will return to Croatia by ferry via the Kotor Channel.
