The Paneuropean Picnic was a peace demonstration at the Austrian-Hungarian border near the town of Sopron (Ödenburg) on 19 August 1989.
Between 600 and 700 DDR citizens took advantage of this brief opening of the Iron Curtain to escape to the West.
We visit this site on the border with Austria, then sightseeing in historic downtown Sopron
