This is an excursion to the east province of Crete and to the beautiful mountains of Dikti.
Reaching an altitude of 850m above the sea level, and driving through wild nature and mountains with a breathtaking view, we will be reaching the fertile plateau of Lasithi with its unique traditional villages and byzantine churches.
At an altitude of almost 900 meters above the sea level, we will be visiting the Cave of Zeus, one of the most impressive Temple- Caves on Crete, the birthplace of the Father of all Gods and Immortals, the place where according to Hommer the Cretan- born Zeus was born and one of the most important peak sanctuaries for the worshipping of the previous prehistoric “Great Mother” Goddess.
Being driven through beautiful natural scenery or on donkey riding (upon request) we will be reaching a picturesque fertile grapevine field where we can practically take part in the vine harvest process. An old traditional wine press will accommodate our interactive activity of trying ourselves the pressing of the grapes by foot, exactly as the people used to do in the antiquity (from August to October- Seasonal experience).
Wine tasting (different types of wine produced in the region of Lasithi) and Raki tasting (local liqueur based on grapes), accompanied by traditional delicious snacks or a traditional meal in a typical Cretan restaurant will be our culinary experience.
Our next interactive activity will be experiential pottery making in a traditional pottery workshop, following the rules and techniques of the most ancient pottery industry in Greece.
