The historic city center of Alberobello is an Unesco World Heritage site because of its trulli (there are more than 1.500): a unique kind of building with stone conical roof witjout any mortar that have survived quite intact and functioning into the modern world. Lots of them are still used as home and the others as restaurant, shop, tourist accommodation.
A tour to discover the history of trulli, their architecture, the mystery and symbolism of their pinnacles.
During the tour we will visit the two old districts of Trulli: Aia Piccola and Monti. We will see also a church (S. Antony) made with trulli architecture, the twin trullis and, if you like, the Trullo Sovrano (national monument) to understand how was life and furniture in the past in a typical trullo.
We can stop for a wine tasting, souvenir shopping and to take some photo of this town that seems coming our from a fairy tale.
Some idea for changes to the itinerary
It’s also possible to extend the tour with a lunch / dinner in a tipycal restaurant, a cooking lesson, a wine or typical product tasting, a visit to some other attraction inside or outside the city center or in the other towns of Valle d’Itria: Locorotondo (the white round shape town world famous for its wine), Martina Franca (with its barocco style), Castellana Grotte (with its caves), Cisternino (with its butcher’s shops and trattoria), Ostuni (the white city up on a hill overlooking the seaside).
