This is a full day tour in Valencia, including an excursion to L'Albufera lagoon region just 8 km south of Valencia.
L'Albufera is famed for the origin of paella and we will make a lunch stop at a typical 'baraca' or old triangular country house of the farmers of Valencia. After lunch, we will see this micro-climate of rice paddies and lagoon up close with a boat ride through the protected lake and wild bird park with over 300 species of birds.
In the morning, we will see everything you need to know about Valencia just like in my Insider's Highlights Tour: the beautiful beach area, the New America's Cup Port, Formula 1 track, the Giant complex of the City of Arts and Sciences by Valencia's own Santiago Calatrava and our medieval gates, among other treats. We then see the monuments of the historical center by foot: the important Roman remains, our Cathedral with its 3 different architectural styles, our main plazas, the UNESCO Heritage site of the Silk Exchange, and the colorful market.
We start with a panoramic circle of Valencia seeing the new America's Cup Port and Formula 1 track area, Malvarosa beach stop, University areas, Football Club's Mestalla Stadium, Calle Colon with bull-ring and Plaza Ayuntamiento, Roman ruins and library (the oldest psychiatric hospital in Europe!), Torre de Quart and Serrano.
In the historical pedestrian center, we will see the most emblematic of monuments and then enter the Cathedral, La Lonja (the famed Silk Exchange of the 15th cent. ) and the Central Market where I treat you to a fresh squeezed juice.
Upon leaving the center, we stop at Calatrava's 'City of Arts and Sciences' with its 7 futuristic structures, en route to L'Albufera lagoon. We have lunch (not included in price) at a typical old Valencian farm house, a 'baraca', (or other typical rest. when closed). Finally we finish our day at the romantic lagoon picture stop and see the rice paddies and protected birds up close with a boat tour from a Valencian native expert of this area.
