Description of Tour

The Transfagarasan road is for sure on the top Romania’s must do. It’s the road that completely surprised the famous Top Gear crew who ended up naming it the best road in the world. It’s a string of the best Grand Prix corners and one of the most amazing driving experiences out there. Now available on a day tour!

Our day starts early in the morning with pick-up from your hotel at 07:30. First stop: Curtea de Arges Monastery.

The monastery is a mix of Romanian, Armenian and Ottoman elements that make it one of the most peculiar and beautiful religious settlements in the country. This 16th century artistry is also famous for being the burial-place of our royal family and for having one of the most tragic and equally beautiful legends linked to it: the Romanian myth that a masterpiece asks for a sacrifice.

From Curtea de Arges we head towards Transfagarasan. Second stop of the day: Vidraru Dam, an impressive 166 meters water dam.

Then off we go on the winding road, through heaps of lushy green forests, waterfalls and dark tunnels towards the glacier lake Balea, the highest point of the road: 2034m above sea level.

At Balea Lake we stop for a walk in the brisk mountain air and photos with the iconic image of the snake road.

Once we bid goodbye to Transfagarasan-the king of roads we head towards the idyllic town of Sibiu in Transylvania.

Sibiu, with its colourful houses and laid back atmosphere is the sweetheart of Romania. We wonder the cobbled streets to discover the famous „eyes of Sibiu”, cross the Bridge of Lies and climb the Tower for an impressive round view over Sibiu. Lunch is scheduled for Sibiu.

We’ll come back to Bucharest on the road that goes along the river Olt, a scenic mountain road itself. Our day ends with drop off at your accomodation.
