This route takes you through Khotyn, famous for its castle complex right on the slopes of the Dnister River, which originally guarded the Ottoman-Polish border and today encompasses the northern part of Bessarabia. The destination, however, for today is one of the most beautiful Western Ukrainian towns, which presents a very rich imperial and royal past. Imperial and Royal past. The city of Chernivtsi, where in the afternoon you will have a pleasant city tour with a visit to a coffee house in Herrengasse! Chernivtsi, more commonly known as Chernivtsi in German-speaking countries, was an important trading post for the Kievan Empire and the Principality of Moldavia on the Pruth River, and developed into a booming provincial capital of the old Austrian Duchy of Bukovina during the Austrian era (1775-1918). A great many literary figures - including Paul Celan, Rosa Ausländer and Gregor von Rezzori - have set a monument to this multicultural oasis in the German-speaking world. You will see a wonderfully preserved inner city of Viennese character, where on the example of the Herrengasse, the former Orthodox Metropolitan Residence (today a university and at the same time a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Jewish Temple and the respective People's House for Germans, Poles, Romanians, etc., very many similarities, but also differences to Western Europe can be understood.

Day 4. (FR) Chernivtsi - Koziv - Verkhovyna - Vorochta - Yaremtshe

Today is dedicated to the Hutsul people and the Ukrainian Carpathians. But in the morning you will make a tour of the old Jewish cemetery, with over 14 hectares and with 50,000 graves the largest in Central and Eastern Europe, there are many graves of important personalities and families with German, Hebrew, Yiddish, Russian and Ukrainian inscriptions. After Chernivtsi, the route leads past fertile gardens and small houses on the Dniester plain towards Koziv, a small town that has become famous throughout Ukraine for its Hutsul handicraft products. Continuing along the highest Ukrainian peaks, past mountain pastures and the small farmhouses, over the "Verkhovynski Pass" to the village of Verkhovyna, which in this country is considered the secret capital of the Hutsul region. The impressions of this wonderful region would not be complete without acquaintance with the customs and traditions of the Hutsuls - the Ukrainian mountain dwellers - which have been cultivated here for centuries. Today's route continues to Yavoriv - a small village where the Hutsuls make their famous sheep wool tepiches. Here, at the home of a family that has been making them for years, you will get a chance to see the whole process of making them.Continue to Vorochta, where you will visit the Church of the Birth of Mary (1615), one of the oldest wooden churches in Ukraine, as well as the railway viaduct (built by the Austro-Hungarian Empire; at 130 meters, one of the longest stone bridges in Europe). On our detailed city tour you will see its historical city centre with many UNESCO protected monuments such as the City Hall, Jewish Quarter, Arsenal, Church of the Assumption, Boim Chapel, House of Seasons, Armenian Church etc. Lviv has long been considered the secret capital of Ukraine, which has made a significant contribution to the Ukrainian national rebirth. Its role as the cultural capital of Ukraine is beyond doubt, there is also its undisputed reputation as the capital of Ukrainian beer and coffee culture. Lviv will once again amaze all participants. Lviv was rightly ranked 1st among the "Top 10 European Cities To See Now" by Reuters in 2013 and 5th worldwide in "Top 10 Cities for 2014" by British publisher Rough Guides in 2014. The development as a young city with old flair, as a EURO 2012 venue and as a city of hundreds of festivals per year make it a hot - spot in Eastern Europe, which does not need to fear a comparison with the charm of Vienna. Lviv's alleys, shops, courtyards, cafes and bars, street musicians and other artists, Lviv is underestimated by strangers and beloved by those who have been here! Lviv is authentic.
