About me

Kirsten thoroughly enjoys the art of guiding and hosting quality-seeking tourists and finds that her background in journalism is most useful in her guiding career. She guides in New Zealand (1 day to 3-week tours), Australia, USA, the Pacific and Japan.

Given her vast knowledge of - and passion for - New Zealand, Kirsten also creates amazing & customized itineraries for independent travellers and groups. Whatever your interest - be it food, wine, golf, architecture, Maori culture, NZ flora & fauna etc. Anything from 1 day to 3-week tours.

Ulla & Mogens Thomsen, Denmark: On the way home from New Zealand we all talked about what a phenomenal tour guide Kirsten is. So engaging, knowledgeable and fun. We have thoroughly enjoyed our tour in New Zealand.

London & Dennis Bearden, USA: "Kirsten, you have shown us a wonderful time, thanks to your attention to details, we had a perfect trip... it was truly fantastic."

Lillian & Uffe Wolfsberg, Denmark: "Kirsten, we have never experienced anything like it. Your knowledge shows your interest in the country, your sense of humour and great spirits were an inspiration to us all and you provided an outstanding service throughout the tour. And that's not an easy task!!! Fantastic tour."

Kirsten is a member of New Zealand's professional body for tour guides.

Kirsten is the author of Denmark’s bestselling guide book to New Zealand, Turen går til New Zealand, published by Politikens Forlag. The book is part of Denmark's most famous guidebook-series covering 100 destinations and Kirsten rewrites and updates her book every three years.

Kirsten is also the author of the awardwinning book Passion, Pinot & Savvy about the New Zealand wine industry. NZ wine is a passion for her and she also hosts fun and educational NZ winetastings.

Kirsten became a New Zealand citizen in 2016. She is based in Nelson but her world is limitless!

Work experience

11/2005 to this dayAfter many years of being a successful freelance journalist based in Denmark Kirsten decided to change her life. She moved to New Zealand in 2002 to manage a boutique hotel, fell in love with the country, resumed her journalistic freelance lifestyle a year later, obtained permanent residency and began tour guiding. Thus, since 2005 she has shared her love of New Zealand with quality-seeking tourists whilst guiding them around the country in Danish, French or English.
She also manages tours in other countries.
To date (Oct. 2016) she has successfully managed 31 three-week tours in New Zealand and more than 25 two-three week tours in Australia, Japan, the USA as well as cruises in The Pacific.
