Description of Tour
Aquileia boasts an archaeological site of exceptional importance from the Roman period and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nowhere else – except Rome – is early Christianity so vividly present.
During a two-hour guided tour, we will explore the city’s most fascinating monuments:
-
The magnificent Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, with its breathtaking 4th-century mosaic floor (750 m²), the Crypt of the Frescoes, and the Crypt of the Excavations
-
The remains of the Roman Forum
-
An ancient Roman street (decumanus)
-
Either the mosaic floors of the Bishop’s Palace or the Domus of Tito Macro, a reconstructed Roman villa
-
The impressive structures of the ancient river port
Please note: Admission fees for the Basilica and Bishop’s Palace or Domus Tito Macro are NOT included in the tour price. For groups larger than 7 people, headsets are required inside the Basilica. I provide them at a cost of €2 per person.
