Description of Tour
According to tradition, the Italian nativity scene (presepe) was first presented to the faithful in the early 13th century by Francis of Assisi in Umbria - to illustrate the miraculous event of Christ's birth. From the early 14th century, the custom became more and more widespread. The presepe differs from the German nativity scene in many ways - Italian nativity scenes are varied, very detailed and elaborately designed - not only does every church have its own small or life-size work of art, but many Italian living rooms also contain true treasures that have been collected over generations.
Let yourself be enchanted by the special atmosphere of Advent in the capital of Christianity! Waiting for the birth of the Messiah is particularly beautiful here - I will take you to some of the city's most ornate nativity scenes, where water wheels clatter, pizza bakers sell their wares or the market can be found right next to the stable. The colorful, also (ethnically diverse) life in which Christ's birth is embedded reminds us that we are all God's children and that peace on earth is not just a slogan.
