Description of Tour

Our Berlin guided tour Scheunenviertel is a ramble through the old Berlin.

Originally located outside the old Berlin, a variety of barns stored hay and straw to supply the cattle market at today's Alexanderplatz. When these had to give way it came to a dense development.

Mainly settled here not far from the Hackesche Höfe poor Jews, workers and the so-called Canaille.

They shared the beds depending on the shift use in the nearby Borsigwerke.

The Scheunenviertel was bursting at the seams and the underworld, pubs and prostitution flourished.

Our guided tour Scheunenviertel and Hackesche Höfe starts at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz.

We describe the development with barns, settlement by Jews and political stories.

So not only the former headquarters of the KPD is located here, but also the Volksbühne as a political theater and the famous cinema Babylon.

Here a tragedy took place when the later head of the Stasi Erich Mielke shot a policeman at this place.

Now we dive into the narrow streets. We tell stories of the Ringvereine - clubs of ex-convicts that dominated the area - demimonde, prostitution and the Zille Milljö.

The Mulackritze, or Ritze, was a legendary pub. Marlene Dietrich was a regular.

The goal of our Berlin guided tour Scheunenviertel and Hackesche Höfe is to get a feel for the old exciting lifestyles.

In the second part of our tour we look at different courtyards. In the Schwarzenberg House we get a feel for the structural situation in GDR times. The Hackesche Höfe and tell of social ideas and what commerce can come up with.

Continue to Clärchens Ballhaus. The Spiegelsaal on the 1st floor - at that time for the nobility - and the Tanzsaal on the ground floor take us back to the Berlin of the twenties and are at the same time a wonderful tip for the evening, because even today there is dancing - and on weekends to live music. With a little luck, the Hall of Mirrors can also be visited.

The former Jewish orphanage Ahawah and the Heckmannhöfe form the conclusion. End in front of the New Synagogue.

A quite wonderful Berlin guided tour of the Zille Milljö, Jewish Berlin and the Hackesche Höfe.

End in front of the New Synagogue, Oranienburger Straße, Berlin Mitte
