Description of Tour

Sibiu - one of the seven great medieval citadels of Transylvania built by Transylvanian Saxons and currently one of Romania's major towns is surely a must see. The beautifully preserved Old Town sets Sibiu among Europe's most charming towns and lead to Sibiu being European Cultural Capital in 2007. Let's discover Sibiu, Romania's sweetheart!

The Sibiu day tour starts with early pick-up from your accommodation and afterwards we  head towards Sibiu through the scenic Olt Valley.

First stop is Cozia monastery - an important Wallachian religious settlement dating back to the 14th century. After we tap a bit into Romanian medieval history and othodoxism we continue our way to the heart of Transylvania.

About two hours later we arrive to our  main destination: Sibiu. This town with its pretty colorful houses, cobbled streets and narrow alleys will definitely enchant you! The tour includes the two main squares: The Big Square and the Small Square, the Catholic andLutheran churches and a quest to spot the best of the famous "eyes of Sibiu". We will dare and cross the legendary Bridge of Lies and climb the Council Tower for a beautiful panorama over the town.

For the afternoon we have two options: either the delightful park of ASTRA Village Museum or the oldest museum in Romania:Brukenthal Palace.

Option 1: The Village Museum exhibits traditional Romanian houses from different centuries and regions of the country. Wooden houses, huts and cottages spread over 40 hectares to make the biggest ethnographic exhibition in Europe.

Option 2: Brukenthal Palace is a Late Baroque palace built by Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, Governor of Transylvania at the end of the 18th century. Passionate collector of art, the Baron had one of the most impressive private collections in the Austrian Empire, collection that has become the center of the present day exhibition. The visit includes the European Art Gallery and the Romanian Art Gallery.

In the evening we start our way back to Bucharest. The Sibiu day tour ends with drop off at your accommodation.
